September 25th-28th 

We have been so busy this week! 

We started our dance residency and will be performing next Friday, October 6th between 8:20-9:05AM in our school gym. 

We have been learning all about Fall and have discovered many new things about how plants and animals change in the Fall. 

We have been creating some art with leaves...

and have been outside looking for signs of Fall and drawing them...

In math, we are still working on patterns but will move onto representing numbers in different ways next week starting with Tally marks. 

The kids have some dance homework this weekend - they need to practice skipping and toe touching with their arms up in the air. 

Remember to return HOME READING books and LIBRARY books on MONDAY.

 September 18th - 22nd, 2023

It was so great meeting you all over the past two days! It's always nice to connect:) 

Grade one is starting to get busier...

It's Orange Shirt Day on MONDAY! We will be having our school assembly at 10:15 on Monday and we will spend the week completing a few activities around Orange Shirt Day. 

Library is on Tuesday. Please remember to return your child's books on Monday. 

We are continuing to learn about patterns in math. Please have your child recognize patterns around them and try to extend them at home. 

We have been working on our first few "heart" words: I, see, the, is, for.  Anytime you can practice writing and spelling these words at home is helpful. 

In Science, we are learning about seasonal changes and Fall. If you go for a walk or to the park this weekend, have your child look for signs of Fall. 

Thank you for all the "Toonies for Terry" We raised enough money to have "Tutu Tuesday". Mr. Van Sluys will be wearing a tutu in Tuesday and invites everyone to wear one in support.

 Week of September 11th - 15th 

We made it! Our first full 5 day week was full of fun and learning. 

In gym, we have been having classes outside in preparation for our Terry Fox Run happening on Tuesday, September 19th at 9:00am. Please remember to bring in a "toonie for Terry". Our school goal is to reach $1200 and Mr. Van Sluys will wear a tutu! 

We have been learning about patterns in math! have your child teach you what they have learned. Ask them about an AB, ABC, ABB and AAB pattern. We are also learning about numbers and number sense. 

I'm looking forward to seeing you all at Parent - Teacher conferences on Thursday, September 21 and Friday, September 22. Please remember that there is NO SCHOOL on Friday for kids. You can begin to book conferences starting tomorrow. 

**Just a note that our regular Library day is on Tuesdays. Please make sure your child returns their library books by Monday so that they can take out a new book when we have Library.

Hello! It's been a fabulous first week of school and the kids are settling into routines very well. 

In math, we have been working on writing our numbers 1-10 and will begin patterns and sorting next week. 

In Language Arts, we are focusing on learning our lower case alphabet and have worked on the letter "t, b and h". We have also been practicing our words of the week which are "is" and "for". 

We have been speaking about how important our names are and have been celebrating our uniqueness. We have also graphed how many letters are in our names and the majority was 5 letters:) 

We have had time in the gym and in music class and met our grade 4 buddies for the first time today! 

I sent home the Scholastic book orders today - all of the information is included with that form on how to order. 

Next week I will be sending home a paper bag and a form for their "All about Me" bags. Please fill the bag with 4 items that represent your child. They will have to present this to the class. We will be completing 3-4 bags per day.

Our Terry Fox run will be held on Tuesday, September 19th. We are collecting "Toonies for Terry" and are asking each child to bring in $2 to go towards Cancer Research. Our goal is to collect $1100 as a school.
