 October 23rd - 27th

We made it a full week! It was a busy week.

The kids were so good on our field trip! The weather and distance were a challenge however all the students were well behaved and enjoyed the show.

In math, we have been focusing on learning 10-frames. We have been working on numbers to 10 this week and will be working on 11-20 this next week.

Halloween is coming - remember costumes are encouraged on Tuesday however make sure there are no masks, gore or weapons. Please ensure your child can use the washroom independently.

We made playdough monsters this week and then did some writing around them.

This next week we will start learning word families -at and -ap. Please practice making these words at home.

We had some fun with a STEM activity where we tried building the tallest tower.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Hi everyone,

We have an exciting week coming up with our Field Trip to Storybook Theatre on Tuesday. We will be leaving the school around 8:30/8:45 and will be taking a snack with us to have when we arrive. We should return around 12:45 so we will have a late lunch when we return.

In preparation for Halloween, costumes are allowed we just ask for no weapons, no masks and no gore. PLEASE ENSURE YOUR CHILD CAN USE THE WASHROOM INDEPENDENTLY WHILE IN THEIR COSTUME. We also ask for no treats brought in for the class but please pack your child their own special treat.

In science we are learning how to describe objects (toys) and will be moving onto measurement.

We are working on reading and will be starting the -at and -ap word families. (cat, bat, hat) (cap, tap, map)

Have a great weekend!

 October 10th - 13th

Hi everyone! A short week...

I hear everyone enjoyed our home reading game...there will be some word work coming home on Monday.

I'm still waiting on a few signed field trip forms - please have your child bring them in asap next week. Our field trip to Storybook Theatre is on October 24th.

Next week on Wednesday, please have your child bring in a favourite toy for the day - we are going to be learning about "matter" and do an experiment with their toys.

We have been learning about tally marks in math - please practice with your child.

We are almost finished reviewing our lower case letters and are hard at work learning our CVC words (consonant/vowel/consonant) we have been working on short /a/ sounds and will be moving onto short /e/ words.

We went on a word hunt during our reading time the other day and were hunting for the words "can" and "and".

The kids continue to amaze me with their building skills and have built this pyramid using our new classroom toys, "playstix"

Have a wonderful weekend!

 October 2nd - 6th

Hi everyone! Sorry this is late...I must have had Turkey on the brain!

We had a wonderful week in Grade 1!

Our dance residency came to an end with an amazing performance on Friday - Thank you to all who came to see it in person:) The kids had a lot of fun with this.

In Science, we are wrapping up our Fall unit and moving onto learning about Matter. We have introduced that matter comes in 3 states: solid, liquid and gas.

We continue to work on our reading skills and are playing with rhyming, syllables, and identifying the first letter in a CVC word (ex. cat - first letter sound is /k/ and it is a C).

Our field trip to Storybook Theater is coming up in a couple of weeks - Thanks to those who have volunteer clearances. Our room parent is organizing who is attending. We may need to borrow some of you for our neighbouring grade 1 class as they don't have enough parents with volunteer clearance.

In math, we have introduced tally marks and 10-frames and we have some fun playing some math games this week.

**Reminder that it's PICTURE DAY on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 11th

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend and I'll see you all on Tuesday!
