December 22nd (yes! we made it!!)

First I would like to say a big Thank you to all of you for the special gifts.  In some ways it's hard to believe it's Christmas ...especially with this unseasonable weather.

We had a busy week of carolling, wearing sweaters, playing outside, wearing PJ's and some learning in there too...we celebrated our 70th day of school on Thursday.

A big thank you to the parent council for a delicious lunch today:)

I wish you all a happy, healthy holiday and I can't wait to see all your littles again in 2024!

 Week of December 11th - 15th

I am so proud of all the kids for our Christmas performance!

We had such a fun week in class! We made Bannock, and made butter...that took a loooooong time.... and our "stone soup" was a hit with most of the kids - some had seconds and thirds! Thank you to all the parents for providing the vegetables.

This next week is another busy one...

We will be carolling on Monday morning at 9am.

Tuesday is "Festive Sweather Day" - I can't wait to see your sweaters

Wednesday is Fun Lunch and carolling at 1:15PM

Thursday is Pyjama Day! Come in your comfy PJ's.

Our last day for "The Magic of Christmas" is Monday, December 18th.

Here's our Bannock Recipe:

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

 December 4th - 8th

It was a great week. I'm so excited to see the snow:) It's finally feeling like Christmas.

In math we have started to learn about number addition sentences ___ + ___ = ___ and we have also focused on "doubles" and "ways to make 10".

We have been writing and reading up a storm - please keep up with the home literacy and practice those CVC words.

These next 2 weeks are going to be busy...

We have our Christmas Performance on Thursday, December 14th at 8:15AM and 1:15PM. It is the same performance both times so please choose one to attend.

We will be making Bannock and Butter on Wednesday and making our Stone Soup on Friday. Please read the orange permission slip that went home on Thursday.

The Magic of Christmas Fundraiser

This holiday season, McKenzie Towne students and staff are encouraged to support The Magic of Christmas.

Every Christmas Eve, The Magic of Christmas loads up Calgary Transit buses that are magically transformed into “reindeer buses”, with hundreds of gifts and volunteers dressed as Santa and his elves.  Then they deliver Christmas spirit into the homes and hearts of those who need it most.  The school wil be collecting until December 18 Please bring in new, unwrapped donation items (not food) and place them in the boxes located in the front foyer.

Please see the attached wish list for ideas of items to donate.

For more information or to make a monetary donation, please visithttps://www.themagicofchristmas.org/

Thanks for your support!

Have a great weekend!

 November 27th - December 1

Good afternoon,

We survived our full 5 day week! We have been busy this week rehearsing for our Christmas concert, learning how to make number sentences using addition to 10 and learning about landmarks in our community.

In SS we have been learning about our community and city. We spoke about special landmarks that only belong to Calgary (Calgary tower, The Stampede and the Bow River) and then we began to talk about special landmarks in our community of McKenzie Towne (the traffic circle, the spray park and our school). We will be discussing this further in the coming weeks.

We will also begin to talk about special traditions our families have over the holidays. There will be a letter outlining this coming early next week.

Thank you to those who returned the student's "home reading (literacy) bags". There will be a new activity coming home on Monday.

We had fun with our buddies today extending the book "Not a Box"

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Happy December,

Tracey Burch

November 28th, 2025 It was a pleasure to meet with you all and discuss the progress of your children :) We have a wonderful class this year...
