 January 22nd - 26th

We have been learning so much this week! We completed a super cool art project linked to the story "Over and Under the Snow" by Kate Messner. We have been studying animals that hibernate, migrate and adapt to Winter. Our art represented animals that hibernate and those that adapt to the cold.

We have also been talking about Polar Bears because they are the one bear that don't hibernate! Mrs. Larmer and myself are adopting a polar bear. The kids will get to name it and track it as it travels for food.

We have also been watching our Big Bear Bald Eagle nest and discovered the first egg had been laid this morning! We will be watching the Eagles sit on the egg and watch it hatch (in approx. 35 days) and will track the growth of the eaglets.

Valentines day is coming up! Our school policy is NO CANDY. We also ask that you don't label valentines to certain kids - we are not allowed to send class list names home. It's easier if everyone just hands out valentines and writes who it's from on it.  (ex. To: my friend, From: Mrs. Burch)

Report card will be released online at the end of January. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

Teachers convention is also coming up so just a reminder that there is NO SCHOOL on February 15 and 16th as well as the 19th for Family Day.

Attached is the grade one curriculum letter which is just an overview of what we have taught so far and what the report card is based on.

Have a fabulous weekend, hope you can all get outside and enjoy Mother Nature!

Cheers,

Tracey Burch

 January 15th - 19th

We have been busy at work learning about Winter as well as animals that hibernate, migrate and adapt to cold weather. We completed a group sorting project yesterday and the kids did really well sorting animals into the correct categories.

In math, we have been working on solving addition equations to 20 using different strategies.

We have been reading and learning new consonant blends. This week we focused on s-blends such as "sm, sp, st, sk, sn".

In writing, we are working on adding detail to our sentences and adding detail.

Have a super weekend!

 January 8-12th, 2024

Happy New Year!

It was great to see everyone back after the break. We are getting right into the swing of things and are picking up where we left off.

In Science, we are learning about Winter and how snow is formed. We are waiting for the weather to warm up to go outside and enjoy the snow.

In buddies, we read "A snowflake for Bentley" and then made snowflakes using Q-Tips and glue.

In math, we are continuing to work on addition to 20 and will be starting to learn about subtraction from 10 in a few weeks. Please practice this with your kids at home.

Please keep reading...Just 10 minutes a night can greatly improve your child' reading. We are reading and playing with words all day long in the classroom.

Reminder that there is NO SCHOOL on MONDAY, January 15th as it is a PD day.

See you all on Tuesday.
