 October 26th, 2024

Happy Saturday...I hope those of you who attended the Halloween dance had a lot of fun! If your child took their inside shoes home on Thursday in order to wear them at the dance, please remember to send them back to school for Monday :)

Our student teacher, Ms. O'Brien started on Tuesday and is getting to know the kids. You will all have a chance to meet her at our November conferences.

In science, we have been doing some pumpkin investigations and did a science experiment to see if our pumpkin would sink or float. Ask your child for the results and have them explain why.

In math, we are learning about "teenager numbers" and are continuing to learn different ways to represent them. We are also working on number sentences (3+5=8) and simple addition to 10.

In reading, we are working on short vowel sounds in CVC words and for writing, we have begun to write about our weekends using sentence starters. We have also been using picture prompts to write "I see" sentences.

The kids have been enjoying our Literacy and math bins in the afternoon and have a chance to work on the learned skills independently.

Have a wonderful weekend!

 October 18th, 2024

In buddies today we read a book about a dog who likes to eat bees! and then the kids completed a really fun art project with their buddies.

In math, we are continuing to learn about number representation and will be moving onto number lines this next week.

Our student teacher starts on Monday and will be with us until just before Christmas.

We celebrated our 30th day of school on Tuesday and Zero the Hero brought us a fun number line activity where the turkey had stolen some numbers and we needed to find them.

Gym is now back inside :) Just in time because the weather is getting cooler.

In Language arts we are beginning to write about our weekends and are using sentences starters to help us remember what we did.

Keep on reading and practicing CVC (dog, hat, met) words with your child :)

Have a wonderful weekend!

 October 11th, 2024

Happy Thanksgiving! I am so grateful for the weather this past week - We have been outside as much as possible in the sunshine.

We have finished up our Fall inquiry book and have created our very first class book! I look forward to showing it to you in our November conferences.

Gym will now be back inside starting on Tuesday unless Mr. V sends a special message.

Halloween is fast approaching. Just a reminder to have costumes that are easy to access to use the washroom independently and that no weapons or masks are allowed at school.

We are eagerly anticipating the 30th day of school on Tuesday and will have to wait to see if "Zero the Hero" comes to visit and bring us a special activity.

Our student teacher will start on Monday, October 21st and will be here until just before Christmas break.

We completed a fun art project where we had to disguise a turkey and hide him from the farmer...here are a couple of examples of the kids' creations...

The yellow folder is optional homework - If you would like to continue receiving homework and home reading, please return the yellow folders each week by Friday so that I can put new activities in to send hom again for the weekend.

**Just a reminder that it will be Library day on Tuesday, October 15th - the day we return from the long weekend. Please remember your child's books so that they can exchange them.

I hope everyone has a wonderful relaxing weekend!

 October 4th, 2024

Hello everyone!

We had a lovely community walk on Tuesday and looked at all the signs of Fall as well as some really cool Halloween decorations.

We began writing "I see ____" sentences this week and today added a sentence "I wonder ____". I encourage the kids to sound out the words on their own so if you are looking for something to do this weekend...have them sound out and write some words. Please don't correct their spelling to "proper spelling" as this is the first stage of gaining independence in writing.

In math we are working our way into different ways to represent numbers and focused on Tally marks this week. Please practice at home with your child with tally marks up to 10. You can use chopsticks, silverware, straws, or anything you have available. Please try to remind them that 4 sticks go up and down and then the 5th goes across to make a group of 5.

Gym will continue to be OUTSIDE for the next week. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather and has comfy shoes on.

PICTURE DAY IS COMING! ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9TH!!

Your child also received their folder for home reading and "home work". Please send back the empty file next week so that I can send home more games and reading next Friday.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at tmburch@cbe.ab.ca

Thanks!

Have a great weekend!
