Week of September 22-26th

Thank you to all who attended the dance performance yesterday - I am so proud of how hard the kids worked and they put on a great show! 

It was a busy week - we had a couple of guest teachers in the classroom so I could complete government testing. They kids treated the guest teacher with kindness and helped them through our daily routines. 

Gym may continue to be outside with the gorgeous weather we've been having to please dress your child appropriately. It is cool in the mornings but very warm in the afternoon. 

Just a reminder that there is no school on Monday, September 29th or Tuesday, September 30th. I will see you all on Wednesday, October 1st.

 Week of September 15th - 19th 

Hello Grade 1 parents, 

Another busy week of school has passed. We have been hard at work in our dance residency with Ms. Alara. We will be having a performance for parents to come and watch on Thursday afternoon. I believe we are 12:30 - 1:45 however, please call the office to check the time. 

We have worked through another week of literacy and math bins. 

In literacy we have been focusing on the vowels and their short sounds and in math we are working on number formation and representing numbers with tally marks. 

Just a reminder that next week there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, September 29th or Tuesday, September 30th. 

Hope you are all enjoying this beautiful weather we're having and getting outside to play!

It was so nice to see most of you last night at our Open house:) We will have a chance to speak again at conferences in November. If you need to speak with me about anything please email at tmburch@cbe.ab.ca

We completed our Terry Fox run today and had so much fun! The kids did a great job of running like Terry!! 

We have been hard at work here in grade 1 and have been reviewing vowel sounds as well as starting to read CVC (cat, map, pan) words. We had our first day of Library and it was a hit. Just a reminder that library is every Thursday so please have  you child return their books by that morning in order to sign out a new one. 

We have completed the week of Literacy bins and had fun practicing new skills. 

The kids have homework this weekend...I asked them to play outside and look at books :)

Welcome Back! It has been a full busy week and i'm sure all your kids are exhausted from all the learning they have been doing this week! 

Some info about our class... 

We will be having Library on Thursday afternoons so please ensure your child returns their book that morning so they can exchange it and bring a new one home. 

Please send enough food for a morning snack, lunch and an afternoon snack. Their little bellies get hungry with all the brain power they are using. 

Please label their items (lunch bags, water bottles, shoes, boots and hoodies and jackets). Once winter hits...it becomes a mountain of clothing at our coat hooks and it's hard for the little ones to identify their items. 

This week we worked on identifying letters and words as well as upper and lowercase letters. We are working on number representation in math. 

We begin a dance residency at the school on September 15th and have the Terry Fox run coming up on September 12th 

The school Terry Fox Run will take place on Friday, September 12th at 9:00 am. Students are encouraged to bring in Toonies for Terry to support cancer research. If we reach our fundraising goal of $1150, we’ll celebrate the following week with a special “Wear Your Favourite Sports Swag” day!

Just a reminder that it is our drop-in Open house on Thursday September 11th from 4:30 - 6:30. I look forward to seeing you there.
